Children's Ministry

“That you may fear the Lord your God, you and your son and your son's son, by keeping all his statutes and his commandments, which I command you, all the days of your life, and that your days may be long. Hear therefore, O Israel, and be careful to do them, that it may go well with you, and that you may multiply greatly, as the Lord, the God of your fathers, has promised you, in a land flowing with milk and honey. “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.” (Deut 6:2 – 9)

The Biblical expectations for parenting are daunting—every moment of every day, we are called to diligently teach our children and our grandchildren to love the Lord with all their heart, soul, and might.  At Weatherford Presbyterian Church, our Children’s Ministry comes alongside parents to meet this command. Our teachers all love the Lord and delight to serve Him by praying for the families of children in their class, thoughtfully studying the Word as they prepare lessons, building relationships with  children, and encouraging parents.

9:30 – 10:20 Sunday School for all Ages
Each Sunday, from September through May, we offer Sunday School classes for all ages, Nursery through adults. During the summer months, we meet for an inter-generational Sunday School class.

Nursery – Rotating
In addition to loving care, our Nursery uses stories framed with God as both the author and main character to introduce simple truths about who God is. Even toddlers can learn to pray and memorize short verses of Scripture.

Preschool - Kindergarten – Laurie Tiscione
Lessons in preschool classes use props to capture small children’s imagination, as we walk through the redemptive storyline of Jesus throughout the entire Bible. The Gospel is communicated to children in all His fullness.

Elementary – Priscilla Hammond
Children at this age begin to understand that they themselves are sinners, deserving God’s wrath and in need of redemption.  We continue to focus on the Truth of who God is, what He has done for us, and how we should respond.  Children are given Church Notebooks to help them participate during Worship service.

Middle Grades – Janet Gilchrist
Middle grade students delve into salvation, sanctification, and the sovereignty of God. We introduce “Fighter Verses”, encouraging students to memorize passages of Scripture.

High School – Rob Looper and Hal Perrin
As our Youth begin to develop a Biblical worldview, they interpret all of life through the lens of Scripture.  We encourage them to develop habits to study the Word daily, growing in their knowledge and love of the Lord.

All of our curriculum is from Truth:78, which is God-centered, Bible-saturated, Gospel-focused, Christ-exalting, Spirit-dependent, doctrinally grounded, and discipleship-oriented.

11:30 – 12:00 Children’s Chapel
Infants and children are always welcome in Worship!

If parents prefer, preschool-aged children may be dismissed from the Sanctuary to attend a special prayer, teaching, and worship service in the Chapel with Mrs. Laurie.  The goal of Children’s Chapel is to teach children to worship God with the whole church gathered, as they are members of it.
