Lessons and Carols

What is Lessons and Carols?

Weatherford Presbyterian Church offers the service of Lessons and Carols annually on Christmas Eve at 5;30 pm.  The order of service is based upon the traditional service first offered to the Lord on December 24, 1918 at the chapel of King's College, Cambridge celebrating God's plan of redemptive history.  It is a declaration from His Word of His great love for us revealed fully in the person and work of His only begotten One, Jesus Christ.  "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."  John 3:16.

Lessons and Carols is a traditional English service and the structure of the service is as simple as the title (Lessons and Carols) consisting of nine Bible passages of Scripture followed by nine carols.  The content of those readings as well as the traditional way of conducting the service has become very meaningful to many congregations and every year more and more are discovering the beauty of this traditional service which concludes with singing Silent Night by candlelight.  Join us for this beautiful Christmas Eve service.
